Since March is Science Month I thought I would talk a little about how far lights have come.
The light
bulbs have even been changing. The light bulb that Thomas Edison invented and was used for so long is now not going to be used anymore. Those were great for their time, now we don’t have to worry about hot light bulbs. We now have more energy efficient bulbs like LED’s (Light Emitting Diodes). They stay cooler and they last a long time.
Even the flashlights and camping lanterns are changing. We see less of the lanterns with fuel or heavy batteries and more that are lighter and solar powered. This may not matter to someone who just takes the occasional camping trip but to someone who lives where travel is done mostly by foot it means having a lighter load that won’t smell or leak like batteries or kerosene. The solar panels charge while you walk during the day and the lights guide you at night. The LED light bulbs in the solar flashlights and lanterns are brighter than light bulbs of the past.
